Indications and Usage
Used to produce mydriasis and cycloplegia for diagnostic ophthalmic procedures.
Dosage and Administration
For refraction, instill one or two drops of the 1% solution, repeated in five minutes. If the patient is not examined within 20 to 30 minutes, an additional drop may be instilled. Mydriasis typically reverses within 4 to 8 hours.
Warnings and Precautions
- For topical ophthalmic use only; not for injection
- May cause CNS disturbances in pediatric patients, including psychotic and behavioral reactions
- Mydriatics may cause a transient rise in intraocular pressure; use caution in narrow-angle glaucoma
- Remove contact lenses before instillation
Contraindications
Contraindicated in persons showing hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.
Adverse Reactions
Transient stinging, blurred vision, and photophobia. Systemic effects may include dry mouth, tachycardia, headache, nausea, and vomiting, with rare psychotic reactions or cardiorespiratory collapse reported in children.
Storage and Handling
Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F); excursions permitted between 15°C and 30°C. Keep tightly closed.
