Dosage and Administration

Adults and children 30 kg (66 lbs) or more: 0.3 to 0.5 mg (0.3 to 0.5 mL) intramuscularly or subcutaneously into the anterolateral thigh, repeated every 5 to 10 minutes as necessary. Children under 30 kg (66 lbs): 0.01 mg/kg (0.01 mL/kg), up to a maximum of 0.3 mg (0.3 mL) per injection, repeated every 5 to 10 minutes as necessary. Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not inject into the buttock, digits, hands, or feet — risk of tissue necrosis or Clostridial infection (gas gangrene)
  • Rare cases of serious skin and soft tissue infections have been reported following injection; advise patients to seek medical care for signs of infection at the injection site
  • May aggravate angina pectoris or produce ventricular arrhythmias, particularly in patients with underlying heart disease; administer with caution
  • Patients with hyperthyroidism, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, or pheochromocytoma are at greater risk of adverse reactions
  • Contains sodium metabisulfite, which may cause allergic-type reactions in susceptible individuals; however, presence of sulfite should not preclude use in a life-threatening allergic emergency

Contraindications

None.
