Indications and Usage

Indicated for intra-articular or soft tissue administration in conditions such as acute gouty arthritis, acute and subacute bursitis, and acute nonspecific tenosynovitis. Also indicated for intralesional use in alopecia areata, discoid lupus erythematosus, keloids, and localized inflammatory lesions.

Dosage and Administration

Initial intra-articular doses typically range from 2.5 mg to 5 mg for smaller joints and 5 mg to 15 mg for larger joints, individualized to the condition. Intralesional doses vary by lesion type. Strict aseptic technique is mandatory.

Warnings and Precautions

• Not for intravenous, intramuscular, intraocular, epidural, or intrathecal use
• Serious neurologic events have been reported with epidural or intrathecal administration
• Corticosteroids may mask signs of infection and increase susceptibility to new infections
• The multiple-dose formulation contains benzyl alcohol, which has been associated with serious adverse reactions in neonates and premature infants

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any components of the product, and for intramuscular use in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.

Adverse Reactions

Reported adverse reactions include anaphylaxis, cardiac arrhythmias, hypertension, osteoporosis, psychiatric disturbances, and aseptic necrosis of the femoral and humeral heads.

Storage and Handling

Store at controlled room temperature, 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Once opened, use within 28 days.
