Indications and Usage
A fluoroquinolone antibacterial indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis and bacterial corneal ulcers caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.
Dosage and Administration
For bacterial conjunctivitis, instill 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye every 2 to 4 hours while awake on days 1 and 2, then four times daily on days 3 through 7. For corneal ulcer, instill 1 to 2 drops every 30 minutes while awake and 1 to 2 drops 4 to 6 hours after retiring on days 1 and 2, then hourly while awake on days 3 through 9, tapering thereafter.
Warnings and Precautions
- Not for injection into the eye; do not administer subconjunctivally or into the anterior chamber
- Rare serious hypersensitivity and severe skin reactions reported with quinolones; discontinue at first sign of rash or allergic reaction
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi
- Avoid contact lens wear during active bacterial conjunctivitis
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ofloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the product.
Adverse Reactions
The most frequently reported reaction is transient ocular burning or discomfort. Other reactions include stinging, redness, itching, blurred vision, tearing, dryness, and eye pain.
Storage and Handling
Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
