Indications and Usage
Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis and bacterial corneal ulcers caused by susceptible strains of organisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Haemophilus influenzae.
Dosage and Administration
For conjunctivitis, instill one to two drops every two to four hours on Days 1 and 2, then four times daily on Days 3 through 7. For corneal ulcer, instill one to two drops every 30 minutes while awake initially, with a tapering schedule thereafter.
Warnings and Precautions
- Not for injection; do not inject subconjunctivally or introduce into the anterior chamber
- Rare serious hypersensitivity and anaphylactic reactions, and severe skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, have been reported
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi
- Avoid contact lens wear during active bacterial infection
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ofloxacin, to other quinolones, or to any component of the formulation.
Adverse Reactions
The most common adverse reactions are transient ocular burning or discomfort, stinging, redness, itching, and blurred vision.
Storage and Handling
Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
