Description
SleepTite/SleepRite™ – Nighttime Relief for Inadequate Lid Seal (ILS)
Single-Use, Hypoallergenic Lid Seals for Improved Eye Comfort & Protection
What is Inadequate Lid Seal (ILS)?
Inadequate Lid Seal (ILS) occurs when the eyelids fail to fully close during sleep, leading to excessive tear evaporation, corneal dryness, and ocular inflammation. Conditions such as nocturnal lagophthalmos, floppy eyelid syndrome (FES), Bell’s Palsy, lid laxity, and ectropion/entropion contribute to ILS, often worsening dry eye symptoms and sleep quality.
Even a small eyelid opening can cause significant eye discomfort, including:
- Dryness or excessive tearing
- Foreign body sensation
- Burning or pain in the eyes
- Blurred vision in the morning
- Redness and light sensitivity
If left untreated, ILS can lead to corneal damage (keratitis), ulcers, and long-term vision issues. Studies also suggest that ILS disrupts sleep quality, as light exposure through partially open eyelids can cause subconscious awakeningsand prevent deep sleep.

Why Treating ILS is Essential for Dry Eye Management
If you are treating ocular surface disease but not addressing ILS, you are only managing the symptoms, not the cause. ILS contributes to persistent inflammation, corneal dryness, meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), and blepharitis, making it an essential component of comprehensive dry eye management.
